Ways to Install Android M Preview on Nexus 6

As you must have known, Android M Preview has been made available for the Nexus 6. This means that the user of Nexus 6 can now flash Android M.

Android M is completed with a large amount of changes. These include the app drawer, app permissions, even enhanced the volume control settings! Android M is especially made for developers, and aiming to enable them start building apps and other Android related software before Android M is released to the public officially.

How to Install Android M Preview on Nexus 6

Again, you MUST NOTE that Android M Preview is just a PREVIEW! Thus, it is recommended that you only try out Android M Preview at home, after you make sure everything you need is properly working. You should also note that this app will wipe everything from the phone. It only backups the important information in your phone!

Please follow this guide to install Android M Preview on Nexus 6, as follows.

1. Please Power off your Nexus 6.
2. Press and hold the power button and volume down at the same time. This will make you see a green “Start” on the screen.
3. After that, plug in your Nexus 6 via microUSB to the computer.
4. Now you should download Nexus6AndroidMPreview.zip. Go to the download link below:


5. Further, please unzip Nexus6AndroidMPreview.zip. Now, you have a folder of, Nexus6AndroidMPreview.
6. Move that folder to the desktop
7. Finally, open Command Prompt (if you use Windows) or Terminal (if you use Mac/Linux/Ubuntu).

Note: If your Nexus 6 bootloader is unlocked, Please skip to step 8!

The next is that you should type in these commands and press enter after each line:
If you use Windows:
cd Desktop
cd Nexus6AndroidMPreview

fastboot oem unlock

If you use Mac:
cd Desktop
cd Nexus6AndroidMPreview

./fastboot-mac oem unlock

If you use Linux/Ubuntu:
cd Desktop
cd Nexus6AndroidMPreview

./fastboot-linux oem unlock

Normally, after you type on those command, you will see “Unlock bootloader?” on your Nexus 6. Just select “Yes”.

8. Open a new Command Prompt if you use Windows or Terminal if you use Mac/Linux/Ubuntu.

Please type in these commands. Do not forget to press enter after each line:

If you use Windows:
cd Desktop
cd Nexus6AndroidMPreview

fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.11.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-D4.01-9625-05.16+FSG-9625-02.94.img

If you use Linux/Ubuntu:

9. After typing in the last command, normally, your Nexus 6 will automatically reboot into Android M! You should be a little bit patient since this boot up can take up to 10 minutes.

10. After the boot up is finished, this means that you now have Android M Preview on your Nexus 6. Congratulation!
